Flight Radiotelephony Operator Tests

Bundesnetzagentur's flight radiotelephony operator tests at AERO Friedrichshafen 2023

20. April 2023
Conference Center West, Room Liechtenstein
German

A flight radiotelephony operator licence issued by the Bundesnetzagentur is required to operate aircraft and ground radio stations for aeronautical radiocommunications.

The Bundesnetzagentur is now offering the opportunity to take tests for licences at the AERO Friedrichshafen show in 2023.

The tests can be taken at the show on the following days:
20 April 2023
21 April 2023
22 April 2023.

Testing will start at 10.30am each day, with a theory test first, followed by a practical test.

Applications for the tests should be made by 15 March 2023. Anyone applying after the deadline cannot be guaranteed a place at the testing.

Applications should be sent by email to: Karl-Flugfunkzeugnisse@BNetzA.de.

The type of licence required depends on the type of the aircraft or ground radio station to be operated. The following licences can be issued in accordance with Germany's Flight Radiotelephony Operator Licences Ordinance:

BZF II – radiotelephony in German within the Federal Republic of Germany with visual flight rules

BZF I – radiotelephony in German and English with visual flight rules

BZF E – radiotelephony in English with visual flight rules

AZF – radiotelephony in German and English with visual and instrument flight rules

AZF E – radiotelephony in English with visual and instrument flight rules.

Requirements for a BZF II, BZF I or BZF E licence

Applicants must be at least 15 years old at the time of the test or turn 15 no later than three months after taking the test.

BZF I licences can be issued to applicants with or without a radiotelephony licence: applicants without a licence need to take the full test, and applicants with a BZF II licence only need to take an additional test.

Requirements for an AZF or AZF E licence

Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of the test or turn 18 no later than three months after taking the test.

AZF and AZF E licences can only be issued to applicants who already have a radiotelephony licence and who then need to take an additional test: AZF licences can be issued to applicants with a BZF II or BZF I licence, and AZF E licences can be issued to applicants with a BZF E licence.
